Summary of: ADC's and DAC's are necessary because they allow us to put real world information into a computer and allow us to get information out of a computer such as music. ADC'S and DAC's are necessary because they allow us to put real world information into a computer and allow us to get information out of a computer such as music. A microprocessor is a tiny computer that is only for one specific thing for example: a heating box which heats the house up to keep you warm.
Home Microprocessors have made great impact on our daily lives. They allow us to do daily chores at the click of the button. They can be found everywhere from washing machines to heating systems and have made our lives much easier. Doing the washing used to take all day but now it only takes the flick of a button. They give us lots more free time but its not all good news, we find it necessary to fill our days with more technology, we rely on our technology to get us through the day. If there was a power cut we wouldn't know what to do. Some microprocessors work by controlling temperature (for example in a microwave) others by a timer and the list goes on. Leisure time Technology has impacted our leisure time. Our leisure time has increased, but leisure time that is actually taking a break really hasn't. Sure we can do all our daily chores at the flick of a button but how many times most of the time you find your self checking your phone in between clicking those buttons. Our free time is constantly interrupted with the need to check our emails and social networks that free time is time online. Even homework that I have to do in my spare time is done online. This can start to have an effect on our lives as you might think your being social but how many of your Twitter or Facebook friends do you actually know and trust? Also are you alone when you are on your phone? Despite that some video games being made to help with health and fitness, it is still unreasonable as you don't get any fresh air whilst doing it. This can affect our health as we can order shopping, work from home, do online banking and get food delivered straight to our doorsteps. Life has become easier and we have became more unsociable. Social interactions They way we socialise has changed. Rather than writing a letter or go and actually talk to the person we can stay where we are and text, call and even video chat with them. We can have conversations with as many people as we want at the same time as refreshing our newsfeeds but will still sit alone in our rooms with the door closed. Slowly we have become less and less active. Your phone enables you to have a social life but it stops you from going out and actually talking to people face to face. Things like face time and instant message may help us talk to people but you can't really experience being there with them. Video chat and face time are a way round that problem however they were meant for a way of communicating with friends/family when you are maybe far from home or you have no way of seeing them not just to have a 2hour chat with your friend as they are in a house across the road from you. Need to leave home Now days we have less of a need to leave the house because of online shopping and banking, the internet and video calls. If you actually went out to do shopping or go to the bank you would be so much healthier then you would be sitting at a computer desk. Technology has both helped and destroyed us in lots of ways because although thinks are easier that can also be a bad think as we are becoming lazier. A lot of us take advantage of the modern technology and we should start using it more wisely instead of just wanting to face time your mates instead of actually getting off of your bottom and meeting them. Technology should be used more for hospitals and people with disabilities who actually need the technology. 1a) Describe two ways of reducing the risk of RSI. - Take regular breaks - Use a wrist rest b) There are sometimes safety risks associated with the use of computers. Describe two ways these risks can be minimised. - Have multiple sockets so you don't overload the mains - Get computer serviced regularly 2a) Describe two health issues other than RSI caused by the prolonged use of computers. For each health issue give a method of prevention. -Health issue 1: Neck pain Method of prevention: Take breaks and have your chair and the correct high -Health issue 3: Back ache Method of prevention: Have the correct posture 3a) Give two uses of ICT devices which, when Prolonged, can cause RSI. - Typing on a keyboard - Excessive use a mouse b) Identify two safety issues and how they are caused. - Overheating, computers left on for a long time will give off lots of heat causing the computer to overheat. - Heavy equipment falling, equipment not positioned correctly or stored on a high shelve 10a) Describe how the following health problems can arise due to the use of computers. Give a different cause for each. -RSI in the wrists: using a mouse or touch pad for long periods of time. -RSI in the fingers: using a keyboard for long periods of time. -Headaches: using or looking at the screen for long periods of time. -Back pain: sitting in a seat at the wrong high with an incorrect posture.
